Guest Info Clyde W. Yancy, MD, FACC, FAHA, FACP; President of the American Heart Association, Medical Director of Baylor Heart and Vascular Institute and Chief, Cardiothoracic Transplantation Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas - Dr. Yancy received his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine, New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1982. He subsequently completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Parkland Memorial Hospital, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, Texas. In 1989, Dr. Yancy completed a fellowship in cardiology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, Texas and then served on the faculty at UT Southwestern for 17 years attaining the rank of Professor of Medicine, and becoming the Medical Director of the Heart Failure/Heart Transplantation Programs and an Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs. His current appointment at Baylor University Medical Center and the Baylor Heart and Vascular Institute commenced September, 2006. Dr. Yancy’s academic and professional interests include hypertension, congestive heart failure, transplant cardiology, critical care cardiology, and ethnic/racial differences in cardiovascular disease. He has been principal investigator, a member of the steering committee, or subcommittee chair on 9 clinical trials and has participated in more than 23 multicenter studies. Dr. Yancy has enhanced his career with many public awareness, advocacy, and advisory roles. He established the African American Task Force and spearheaded efforts to create greater volunteer diversity for the Dallas Division & Texas Affiliate of the American Heart Association; he helped to create the Texas Chapter of the American College of Cardiology; he was co-founder and first co-chair of the Texas Coalition to Reduce Heart Disease and Stroke, for which he played a major role in creating the first Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke Council of the Texas Department of Health; and he spearheaded the development of HeartProfilers®, a Web-based patient education tool for cardiovascular disease.
