Playing sports is a great way for your Teen to stay fit and healthy, to learn about teamwork, make friends, and develop a sense of personal satisfaction. In addition, taking part in youth sports may lead to greater leisure-time physical activity as an adult. Dr. Margot Putukian, MD, FACSM, who served on the NCAA Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports Committee, and is currently the Chair for the US Lacrosse Sports Science & Safety Committee, and is also a Team Physician for US Soccer and US Lacrosse, comes on the show to discuss Sports Physicals at the College Level, NCAA Banned Drugs and Medical Exceptions Policy, Concussion in Sports, and Sickle Cell Testing in the NCAA. Guest Info Margot Putukian received her B.S. degree in Biology from Yale University, where she participated in soccer and lacrosse, and her M.D. from Boston University. She then
completed her internship and residency in Primary Care Internal Medicine at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. She completed her fellowship in sports medicine at Michigan State University, in East Lansing, MI. Margot worked as a team physician and the Director of Primary Care Sports Medicine at Penn State University for almost 11 years before starting her current position in January 2004 as the Director of Athletic Medicine and Head Team Physician for Princeton University. Margot is a charter member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM), where she served on the Board from 1997-2006 and as President 2004-2005, and is currently the President Elect of the AMSSM Foundation. Margot just completed her term on the Board of Trustees for the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), and is on the Sports Science Safety Committee as well as the Task Force on Clinical Medicine. She served on the NCAA Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports Committee, and is currently the Chair for the US Lacrosse Sports Science & Safety Committee.
