Guest(s) Kerri Winters-Stone, Ph.D., FACSM Topic Bone Health and The Prevention of Osteoporosis Topic Info One of the best ways to strengthen your bones and prevent osteoporosis is by getting regular exercise. Even if you already have osteoporosis, exercising can help maintain the bone mass you have. Recent studies have shown that the risk of osteoporosis is lower for people who are active, and especially those who do load-bearing, or weight-bearing activities at least three times a week. Kerri Winters-Stone, Ph.D., FACSM comes on the show to discuss The ACSM Action Plan for Osteoporosis and how you can start boosting your bone health and lower your risk of fractures. Guest Info Kerri Winters-Stone, Ph.D., FACSM is the author of ACSM's Action Plan for Osteoporosis. She is an associate professor at Oregon State University and an exercise physiologist who has conducted research in the field of bone health and osteoporosis for more than a decade. She has aided in the development of exercise programs that improve bone
health and reduce fall risk in adults, including the elderly, and she has obtained funding, including a grant from NASA, to develop and test exercise programs to reduce fracture risk in a variety of populations.
