Topic Info Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) describes why muscle soreness or muscle stiffness is typically felt 12-48 hours after exercise, particularly at the beginning of a new exercise routine, after a change in sports activities, or after a dramatic increase in the duration or intensity of exercise. Guest Info Dr. William “Turi” Braun completed his doctorate in exercise physiology at the University of Toledo in 1998, following his M.S. in exercise physiology from Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth, TX. Upon completion of his doctoral degree, he accepted a tenure-track position at California State Polytechnic University in Pomona CA where he taught for six years before moving to Shippensburg University of PA in 2004 to help build a new program in exercise science. Dr. Braun has been an active member of ACSM since 1992 and has been a member of the Texas, Midwest, Southwest and Mid-Atlantic regional chapters of the ACSM. Dr. Braun conducts research in exercise-induced muscle damage and its impact on energy cost of transport.
