And kids every where are itching to join in the fun and excitement of their favorite sports. However, that fun can soon turn to fear when a child is injured. Contact sports put young athletes at serious risks for severe injuries and most parents don’t realize that the bones, muscles, tendons, and ligaments in children are still growing, making them more susceptible to injury. Dr. David Drez, Jr., an orthopedic surgeon on staff at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, discusses what parents and coaches need to know to decrease a child’s risk.
