Alzheimer's Disease: Breakthrough Ride
Topic Info
Today, an estimated 5.3 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s and that number is growing! To help the ongoing fight against Alzheimer’s Disease, on July 22nd, 2010, the first ever Alzheimer’s Breakthrough RideSM, ridden by researchers, began in Los Angeles as part of a cross-country ride to Washington, D.C. Along the route, the Breakthrough Riders had an initial goal to collect 50,000 signatures for a petition urging lawmakers to make Alzheimer’s Disease a national priority. By the time they reached their halfway point, riders had already collected more than 85% of their goal. To show Congress the importance of making this a national priority, riders are upping the ante and aim to collect 100,000 signatures over the next 4.5 weeks before they reach the nation’s capitol. Riders will present the signatures to Congress on World Alzheimer’s Day (Sept. 21).

Dr. Bruce Lamb, Chair of the Alzheimer’s Breakthrough Ride joins the show to discuss this amazing effort.
