Keeping Your Kids Healthy During Travel

Dr. Karl Neumann MD, FAAP, editor of the newsletter of the International Society of Travel Medicine comes on the show to discuss traveling with your children. He will give his best advice and tios on infectious diseases - what vaccines do you need when going to certain parts of the world? How do you keep your kids healthy on the road (hand sanitizer? bottled water?)? What medicines should you pack in case kids catch a bug? How to manage chronic illness on the road - are there special precautions you need to take if your child has asthma, diabetes, allergies, and if you're traveling internationally, what should parents know about the medical system of the country they're visiting?

Karl Neumann is a pediatrician, travel medicine practitioner, and journalist. He is Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Weill Medical College of Cornell University and Clinical Associate Attending Pediatrician at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Cornell Medical Center. He is editor of the newsletter of the International Society of Travel Medicine and serves on their executive board, an editor of the International Child Health Newsletter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and former newsletter editor of the Wilderness Medical Society. He has written chapters on pediatric travel medicine for textbooks, hundreds of articles for major newspapers, and edited and published a popular newsletter. He lectures frequently to physicians around the world on the medical aspects of travel and outdoor recreational activities.
