Dr. Russell G. Robertson, M.D., is professor and chair of the Department of Family Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He joined the Feinberg School’s leadership in October 2005. He was recruited from the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, where he served as associate professor of family and community medicine and associate dean for faculty affairs. A native of Ypsilanti, Michigan, Dr. Robertson earned a BA degree from Michigan State University and completed premed requirements at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. In 1982 he earned his MD degree at Wayne State University in Detroit, followed by a family practice residency at the Grand Rapids (Michigan) Family Practice Residency. Dr. Robertson completed a fellowship in faculty development at the University of Missouri and has taken a number of management courses. Author of more than two dozen journal articles, reviews, book chapters, and educational materials, Dr. Robertson is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, American College of Physician Executives, and National Association of Medical Communicators. Chosen among the "Top Doctors in America" and "Top Family Doctors in America," Dr. Robertson was one of 17 physicians nationwide appointed to the Council on Graduate Medical Education by the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services in 2003. Now chair of the council, Dr. Robertson and his fellow members advise Congress and the Department of Health and Human Services on issues related to physician supply and distribution.
