Exercise and MS; The Latest Research
Topic Info
Exercise can help ease the symptoms of multiple sclerosis, but it's important to take certain precautions if you want your exercise program to be successful. The most important thing to remember is to not overdo it.
In addition to being essential to general health and well-being, exercise is helpful in managing many MS symptoms. An exercise program needs to be appropriate to the capabilities and limitations of the individual, and may need to be adjusted as changes occur in MS symptoms.
Regular exercise is a good idea for anyone, but for people with multiple sclerosis, there are even more specific benefits. While doctors used to recommend that people living with MS avoid exercise entirely due to fear of aggravating symptoms, now there is a great deal of evidence to suggest that regular exercise not only improves quality of life for people with multiple sclerosis, but that it may also help ease symptoms and minimize the risk of certain complications down the road.
Dr. Rudy Dressendorfer, Ph.D., PT, FACSM comes on the show to discuss the latest research on Exercise and MS.
