The Federal Government has issued its first-ever Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans. They describe the types and amounts of physical activity that offer substantial health benefits to Americans.

Dr. Robert (Bob) A. Oppliger, Ph.D comes on the show to discuss Athletes, Research and Weight Management. He will discuss amoung other things: Methodological Issues in Exercise Research; Health and Weight Management Among Wrestlers and Other Athletes; US Policy Related to Physical Activity and Exercise; and Local Advocacy and Promotion of Physical Activity.

Robert (Bob) A. Oppliger, Ph.D and Fellow in the American College of Sports Medicine has had a long standing interest in the issue of diet and weight control. For more than 25 years, his research has focused on health and performance issues among wrestlers. He has authored or co-authored more than 50 articles and reviews and presented widely to national and regional audiences on this topic. He has served as a consultant to the NCAA, the National Federation of State High School Associations and several state associations on development of wrestling weight management rules and chaired the writing committee for the ACSM’s position statement Weight Loss in Wrestlers.

Away from the office Dr.Bob is an avid bicyclist and advocate for bicycle education and safety, referees little league and high school soccer, and has been a Master Gardener for 19 years.
