STUDY: DOCTORS NOT TALKING ABOUT STRENGTH TRAINING WITH PATIENTS
Most individuals willing to perform resistance exercise if advised by physician
BALTIMORE – Although strength training is a key component of fitness, physicians and other health care providers aren’t routinely discussing it with patients, according to a study presented at American College of Sports Medicine’s 57th Annual Meeting in Baltimore.

Teresa earned her master's degree in exercise science from the University of Nebraska at Omaha as she finished her 23-year career in the U.S. Air Force in 1998. Later she went on to complete her Ph.D. in educational psychology with an emphasis in health behavior in 2009 year at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She holds four national certifications through the American College of Sports Medicine, the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and the National Academy of Sports Medicine. She has authored a commentary for ACSM's Sports Medicine Bulletin and has served as an exam item writer and as a credited reviewer for the newest edition of the ACSM Certification Review. Teresa has also authored or co-authored six articles in various publications, and presented fitness topics as a speaker for local organizations.
Teresa started strength training in 1982 and is a national-level competitor in master's powerlifting in the 165-pound class; she has competed at the international level as well. She won the National Championship for 2004 in her age category and weight class and holds several state records in Nebraska for powerlifting. In addition, she competes in Scottish heavy athletics both in the U.S. and in Scotland and is continuing to work on improving all her events, especially her caber toss. She also enjoys fitness walking, snowshoeing, and travel.
