Dr. Andrew Elkwood, M.D., is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon at the Plastic Surgery Center in Shrewsbury, NJ. Dr. Elkwood performs a number of unique operations involving nerve rebuilding and complex reconstruction to help patients suffering from life-altering medical conditions who are often unaware that a treatment is available. He is skilled in many of the newest plastic surgery techniques, as well as microsurgery, limb replantation and microsurgical cancer reconstruction.
Dr. Elkwood is among a select group of surgeons in the world to perform nerve transplantation, utilizing advanced technology to make use of either living-donor nerves or cadaverous donor nerves in order to reverse many life-altering paralyses. Dr. Elkwood is the Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, New Jersey. He operates at Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital as well as Monmouth Medical Center, and has offices in NY and NJ.
Dr. Elkwood is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery in both General Surgery and Plastic Surgery. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgery (FACS) and a Fellow of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Dr. Elkwood is a New York area native and is a graduate of the prestigious 6-year combined BS/MD program at Union College, Schenectady, New York, and the Albany Medical College of Union University. Upon obtaining his medical degree, Dr. Elkwood completed a general surgery residency at the New York University (NYU) and Bellevue Hospital. Dr. Elkwood has a graduate degree in finance and economics from Columbia University, enjoys a teaching appointment at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (UMDNJ), and lectures and publishes on a wide variety of topics in the fields of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.
