As the number of recalled eggs jumps to more than half a billion, The Humane Society of the United States is calling on the egg industry to stop cramming laying hens into tiny cages that are inhumane and pose a public health menace. Every year, 142,000 Americans suffer egg-borne *Salmonella* infections—and that doesn’t include the cases tied to the current recalls. That’s an egg-borne epidemic, and it’s one that’s closely connected to these cruel cages. *Each of the nine scientific studies published in the last five years comparing cage and cage-free egg operations found increased Salmonella rates in the cage operations.*

An internationally recognized lecturer, he has presented at the Conference on World Affairs, the National Institutes of Health, and the International Bird Flu Summit, testified before Congress, and was an expert witness in defense of Oprah Winfrey at the infamous "meat defamation" trial.
