Guest Info
Pax Prentiss was hooked on heroin, cocaine, and alcohol for a decade. The reason for his drive to do drugs was so powerful because he wanted to numb the pain of his underlying problems, which were low self-esteem, depression, and anxiety. Pax used drugs for the same reason most people are using-trying to run away from his problems and avoid feeling the pain that they brought him. During this time, his father, Chris Prentiss, tried everything he could to get his son sober. Desperate to find help for his son’s chemical dependency, they made an exhaustive search and found no program that worked. That’s how Passages Addiction Cure Center was born. Pax is now 9 years sober and believes the Passages experience he helped to create is truly a rite of passage from the bonds of addiction to the freedom of sobriety. Today, Pax is reaching out to help parents and other recognize the warning signs in their own children and provide answers. An American Academy of Pediatrics contains shocking numbers: that 5,000 young people under 21 die each year as a result of underage drinking. And more than one million high school students are frequent binge drinkers that are more likely to engage in risky behaviors. And the National Institutes of Health has found alcohol-related deaths among U.S. college students rose from 1,440 deaths in 1998 to 1,825 in 2005.
