Susan E. Levy, M.D. is a board certified pediatrician, with certification in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities. She is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and Associate Division Chief for Child Development and Metabolic Diseases of The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. (CHOP) She is the Director of the section of Developmental Pediatrics and Founder and Director of the Regional Autism Center of The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. She is also a member of the newly founded PENN/CHOP CAR (Center for Autism Research).
Dr. Levy’s research interests include early identification of children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD), epidemiology of ASD and Complementary and Alternative Medical treatments of ASD. Dr. Levy is the Co-principal Investigator (with Dr. Jennifer Pinto-Martin, UPENN-School of Nursing) of the Pennsylvania CADDRE (Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities Research and Epidemiology), which is funded by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. She is an investigator in the Pennsylvania site of the network for EARLI (Early Autism Research Longitudinal Investigation) with Drexel, which is investigating risk factors and early signs of autism in younger siblings of children with autism. Dr. Levy is collaborating with other researchers at the Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia, University of Pennsylvania and Drexel University.
Dr. Levy is active in policy and advocacy on a local, regional and national level. She was co-chair of the research subcommittee of the Pennsylvania Autism Task force and chairperson of the workgroup to standardize ASD evaluations in Pennsylvania. She is a member of the Executive Board for the Council on Children with Disabilities and a member of the Autism Subcommittee for the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). As a member of the Autism Subcommittee she contributed to the 2nd edition of the Autism Toolkit.
