Healthcare for Seniors

Americans are living longer—and living healthier for longer— which has created a relatively new and growing area of healthcare and provider services known as elder care. Elder care encompasses a wide variety of issues, including choosing an appropriate physician; treating medical conditions, which in the older patient often includes multiple problems at the same time; monitoring medications, which again can include multiple prescription and over-the-counter drugs; and any underlying social, nutritional, psychological and physical activity components of an older person's health. Dr. Ameer Khan, a family medicine resident with Memorial/LSUHSC Family Practice Center, will discuss medical challenges for the aging patient.

A native of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Dr. Ameer Khan is a graduate of the University of South Alabama and the American University of the Caribbean. He is currently completing his family medicine residency at Memorial/LSUHSC Family Medicine Residency Program.
