Specially equipped to handle newborns with the most critical medical needs, Memorial’s NICU is staffed by a team of dedicated registered nurses and neonatal nurse practitioners who provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week, under the medical supervision of two board certified neonatologists and a pediatric intensive care specialist. A graduate of the University of Tulsa in Tulsa, Oklahoma with a BS in Biology, and Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas with a BS in Nursing, Elizabeth Phillips, RNC, is the director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. She has been with Memorial since 1999. In 2001, she received registered nurse certification and joined the NICU transport team. In 2003, she trained to become a Neonatal Resuscitation Program instructor. She cross-trained two years later in Labor & Delivery, and occasionally helps out in the LDRP unit.
