Ramon W. Johnson, M.D. -

In 1996, Dr. Ramon Johnson, joined the medical staff at Mission Hospital as director of pediatric emergency medicine, and in 1998, he served as associate director of the Emergency Department. Dr. Johnson is a leader and educator, bringing an acute knowledge of pediatrics and emergency medicine to the hospital campus which includes CHOC Children’s at Mission Hospital and the community.

Prior to his arrival at Mission, Dr. Johnson worked at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center (LBMMC) as Director of Pediatric Emergency Medicine and was also Assistant Director of the Lifeflight Helicopter program. During that time he also served as the Medical Director of the Paramedic Training Institute Extension Program based at LBMMC where he personally trained more than 2000 paramedics from Los Angeles and Orange counties in the care of sick and injured children. Dr. Johnson as also served as Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Emergency Medicine at Stanford University where he also serve as Director of Pediatric Emergency Medicine. He is also the past medical director of the California Paramedic Institute and currently serves as medical director for Doctors Ambulance, both based in Orange County.

Dr. Johnson is board certified in Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Emergency Physicians, where he also served as past state chapter president. He currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the American College of Emergency Physicians at the national level where he is actively engaged in the health care reform policy debate.

In addition to his work at Mission Hospital, he has been a consultant on numerous state grant and private projects, specializing in Pediatric Care, Trauma Program development and Disaster Preparedness as well as Emergency Department efficiency and patient safety initiatives. Currently, he was appointed by the Speaker of the State Assembly to serve on the Commission on Emergency Medical Services and served as the chairman of the commission from 1996 to 1998. He also currently serves on the State’s Joint Advisory Committee on Terrorism and has been actively involved in the oversight of the HRSA Grant and disaster planning at the state level.

Dr. Johnson received his undergraduate education at Stanford University and medical school training at University of Connecticut. He also completed his residency at University of California, Los Angeles in Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine and served as Chief Resident from 1984 to 1985.
