Joe Canose, Vice President of Quality of Life at the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation joins the show to discuss the Paralysis Resource Center (PRC)which promotes the health and well-being of people living with a spinal cord injury, mobility impairment, and paralysis by providing comprehensive information, resources and referral services.

Joseph Canose is Vice President of Quality of Life at the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation. Mr. Canose came to the Reeve Foundation in late 2001 and directs the Paralysis Resource Center (PRC), the first resource facility of its kind, as well as the Reeve Foundation’s Quality of Life grants program. The PRC provides information services for individuals who live with paralysis and the families and caregivers who assist them. Canose also directed and developed and the national paralysis survey to estimate the prevalence of paralysis in the United States this survey represents one of the largest population based samples of any disability ever conducted, this survey found that there were over 1.2 million Americans living with SCI and over 5 million Americans living with paralysis.

Before joining the Reeve Foundation in 2001, Canose held management positions at Lucent Technologies and Bell Laboratories, gaining experience in Web site development, document development platforms, multimedia training origination and delivery, and e-business applications.

The PRC has served more than 1.5 million individuals through a toll free number and website, in addition, Canose was integral to the development of a print edition of the Paralysis Resource Guide in English and Spanish. Canose was also instrumental in the development of the multicultural outreach program which reaches out to the Hispanic, African America, Asian American/Pacific Islander and Native American communities.

Canose is a member of the Model Systems Steering Committee and Community Advisory Board for the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in New Jersey. He earned a master’s degree in Library Science from Rutgers University and a bachelor’s degree from Seton Hall University both in New Jersey,
