Dana Best, MD, MPH, a nationally recognized expert in pediatric environmental health, is director of the Smoke Free Project at Children's National Medical Center. Dr. Best is an associate professor of pediatrics at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Dr. Best earned her undergraduate degree in chemistry at Yale University and her medical degree at the University of Virginia. Following medical school, she completed a residency in pediatrics at the University of Vermont/Fletcher Allen Healthcare, and was offered a position in the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program at the University of North Carolina. While a clinical scholar she earned a master's in public health (MPH), completed a residency in preventive medicine and is now boarded in both pediatrics and preventive medicine. Dr. Best's research focuses on secondhand tobacco smoke exposure in children and pediatric lead poisoning.
