Dr. Tammy Harris Sims is Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in the Center for Tobacco Research and Intervention. She is a member of the Committee on Substance Abuse of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). She has been involved in several activities which include conducting research to advance the science of adolescent tobacco use cessation, taking care of patients in clinical settings, teaching residents, medical, dental and nursing students, authoring journal articles and policy statements promoting tobacco control, and lecturing extensively on tobacco control and cessation treatments. Dr. Sims conducts research that promotes the prevention of tobacco use, the cessation of tobacco use, and the elimination of secondhand tobacco smoke exposure especially in the pediatric and young adult populations. Her research has focused on determining what types of interventions are effective for helping adolescent tobacco users quit, particularly the accessibility and effectiveness of a tobacco cessation helpline/ quit line resource for reaching the adolescent population. Dr. Sims is a Board Certified pediatrician licensed and practicing in the State of Mississippi.
