Topic Info
CPR — cardiopulmonary resuscitation — is a basic lifesaving technique used when breathing stops and/or the heart no longer beats. In children, CPR is rarely needed for heart problems. More often it is needed for breathing problems due to choking, smoke inhalation, lung diseases such as asthma, drowning or other accidents. Lee Anna Duplechain, BSRN, a clinical nurse educator on staff at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, discusses the importance of parents knowing infant and child CPR – and healthcare professionals knows PALS (pediatric advanced life support).

For more information on Infant/Child CPR or PALS courses, call Memorial’s Education Department at (337) 337-494-3218.
