Richard J. Fischel, M.D., Ph.D., graduated from medical school at UCLA and completed his surgical residency and a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Minnesota and UCLA. He received a Ph.D. in surgery and immunology while at the University of Minnesota.
,br> Dr. Fischel is board certified in thoracic surgery and has practiced general thoracic surgery in Orange County since 1995. His specialty is minimally invasive video assisted thoracic surgery (VATS). He is an assistant clinical professor of thoracic surgery at UCI and UCLA medical schools. He was recently elected as the president of the American Lung Association of Orange County and is a frequent lecturer at national and international meetings. Dr. Fischel is an expert and pioneer in the technique of VATS lobectomy for lung diseases.
