Over 50 million people worldwide are affected by epilepsy, including 3 million in the U.S. One in three people knows someone with epilepsy. With over 40 different types of seizures, it’s essential that patients and caregivers overcome how the condition is socially perceived (often resulting in isolation), play an active role in their medical treatment and help others understand the condition. Dr. Blanca Vazquez, epilepsy specialist joins the show to help raise awareness and understanding of epilepsy.

Dr. Vazquez received her M.D. from Cayey School of Medicine in Puerto Rico. After her residencies in internal medicine and neurology at St. Michael's Medical Center in Newark, New Jersey, and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey respectively, she completed an epilepsy fellowship at the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center at New York University Medical Center/Mount Sinai Hospital.
