Guest(s) Dr. Tom Maldonado Topic Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms Topic Info Most recently, the team at NYU, led by Dr. Tom Maldonado, sponsored a training program to teach Latin American surgeons from Argentina to Mexico, about endovascular aortic repair, or EVAR. EVAR has quickly emerged as the standard of care in the United States for the treatment of abdominal and thoracic aortic aneurysms, two deadly, but treatable, vascular conditions. Unfortunately, many surgeons in Latin America are still using conventional, open surgical methods, which are both more invasive and riskier than EVAR. Dr. Maldonado will be spending 3 days with this group of physicians, providing hands-on training on EVAR and educating on how to use the latest device innovations, with the hope that these physicians will return home with the knowledge, experience and skills necessary to offer this alternative to their patients. Dr. Maldonado joins the program.
